Masters students select a major from four research areas - Complex Systems Science, Intelligent Systems, Media Architecture, and Media Design. They follow a curriculum that deepens their understanding of the design of information systems in their selected research area while at the same time benefiting from the interdisciplinary support from the other three areas.

In Project Study I and II, advanced exercises provide experience of many different styles of interdisciplinary research. In Project Study III, students present their work at open seminars and receive broad and deep feedback.

An emphasis on different paradigmatic perspectives in both research and instruction is a key feature of the doctoral program.

The faculty in the graduate school are organized into "clusters" to promote research in areas that are key to the University's scientific program, such as robotics and mobile computing. The graduate school building itself is designed to give maximal support to interaction in these clusters, and students are also encouraged to be active members in this process.
