Background to FUN’s Foundation
Around the world, the environments human cultures find themselves living in are undergoing constant change. Such changes can be attributed to a multitude of complex and intersecting factors, to which humans have responded by developing diverse social systems and advanced scientific technologies. Such scientific technologies have ushered in massive transformations into the lives of virtually all peoples on planet Earth. We live in times that require unique and focused abilities for looking ahead into our common futures.
Future University – Hakodate was founded in April 2000 by the Hakodate Wide Area Unification board, and was incorporated in 2008. The University was originally established as a venue for acquiring innovative “human-oriented” scientific technology, information technology, and expressive skills appropriate for a rapidly changing global environment.
FUN’s facilities, educational styles, and the types of students attracted to FUN are all new. Visitors to campus are almost always surprised by the uniqueness of FUN, not just as a Japanese university but for the world. Although it is not possible to explain every detail about FUN within this home page, we will attempt to provide as much information as possible.
