Studying @ FUN

Post-Graduate School of FUN > Facilities

Facilities

The Future University Hakodate campus is conceived as a place of open exchange.
Ideas derived from the various research laboratories generate new collaborations through group works at the studio. Outcomes are transmitted from the Presentation Bay in order to lead to further ideas.

In addition, there are various environments for experimentation and production, in order to satisfy students’ broad intellectual curiosity and to support the multifarious on-campus activities.

Research Environment

Graduate School Building

Graduate School Building

The graduate school building was established in April 2005 on the west side of the University Building.
It is hoped this location will further lead to the improvement of FUN’s research activities.

In addition to the viewing and lending of books, e FUN Media Library has audio-visual materials for in-house viewing. Specialized books and on-line databases are also available and are widely used for students’ research activities and self-learning.

Experimental & Production Environment

AtelierThe Atelier

The Atelier is used for students to do practical work in design courses.
Students engage in various creative activities here.

Electronics WorkshopElectronics Workshop

The Electronics Workshop has the tools for electronic and simple machine work. Part of the space can also be used for long/mid-term research activities.

Psychology Experimental LaboratoryPsychology Experimental Laboratory

Experiments are conducted to investigate human cognitive reactions to visual/auditory stimuli, as well as human-machine interface interactions.

Economics Experimental LaboratoryEconomics Experimental Laboratory

Researchers can experience actual trading, by utilizing software to re-create economic phenomena occurring in market systems - as well as auctions, and can test simulate new economic systems through a range of experimentation techniques.

WorkshopWorkshop

Under the guidance of engineering staff, students are able to use this facility for woodwork, metalwork, and welding. The Workshop is used mainly for the robots assembly and production.

The Anechoic RoomThe Anechoic Room

The Anechoic Room is used primarily to measure sounds without noise, for multipurpose experiments in psychology and research related to phonetic information.

The Computer RoomThe Computer Room

The Computer Room is used for lectures or practice using actual computer design systems. FUN has a graphic work station, a dedicated Macintosh room, a dedicated Linux room, and a joint Linux/Windows room.

Presentation/Demonstoration

The Presentation BayThe Presentation Bay

The unique FUN Presentation Bays consist of three round-shaped arena spaces 7.6 meters in diameter, arranged along the glass wall of the FUN main campus building.
These spaces are used for interactive class activities with small groups, as well as for presentations by research groups.

The FUN MuseumThe FUN Museum

The FUN Museum functions as a point of contact between the University and the community at large. The Museum is host to diverse events held for presenting research outcomes, student works, concerts and other various performance-installation type work, as well as for faculty presentation and display.

The C&D ZoneThe C&D Zone

The C&D (Communication & Design) Zone is mainly for communication lectures and presentations. Their colorful interior and oval tables are designed to facilitate communicative group work and are fully equipped with state-of-the-art Macintosh computers and peripherals.
