Intelligence Information Science Course
Introduction
The area of intelligence information science is the most advanced research area in trying to achieve cooperativeness and social attributes using artificial intelligence systems
Improving human to computer/robot communication
As relationships between human societies and computers complexify, and computers are used in the processing of complex information or work, the demand for systems which improve human to computer and robot inter-communication and provide more advanced services increase. Recently, autonomous robots such as toys and home-care robots that clean and garden have become increasingly popular. As it is anticipated that robots will be able to take charge of increasingly advanced and complex tasks, human-computer inter-communication will also become a priority problem area.
For computers and robots to perform intelligent advanced processing tasks similar to humans, it is necessary to deepen our understanding of human behaviours. The field of intelligent information science integrates interdisciplinary knowledge based on mathematical and computer sciences, thereby building models based on the analysis of human intelligence in order to create computer and robot systems applying humans-like higher-order intelligences. In particular, this kind of research aims to build basic theories of higher-order human intelligence - such as perception, reasoning, understanding, learning, decision-making, behavior, and cooperation; and apply such knowledge to the building of artificial intelligence systems, software agents, and the design, production, and application of robots.
Focus on human-Artificial Intelligence (AI) interactions
The field of intelligence information science focuses on the interactions between humans and AI agent robots. For example, some house robots are programmed to possess limited entertainment elements. Research in this case pursuits to identify and provide people with important entertainment attributes. Computer games are one obvious such research application. AI systems, software agents, robots, and their potential for cooperation and collaboration with humans typify other priority research areas. In our day to day social interactions, we humans function according to implicit social rules of cooperation and collaboration. Creating such features for AI-based systems involves highly-advanced research with high-priority status.
In pursuit of specialized intelligence information-processing with human sensibilities
Students majoring in the field of intelligent information science are expected to acquire basic knowledge of high-order intelligence processing skills as well as the design and operation skills of artificial intelligence, agents, and robots. They are also expected to develop intelligence systems with ICT-related companies, as well as to take an active part in to the research of AI systems and robots for the next generation at universities and research institutes.
