Master's Course

In this program, students learn various from various viewpoints about fields such as Information Engineering, Complex Science, Cognitive Science, and Design to deepen their own research themes in the field of Systems Information Science. In addition to seminars, the Program offers project-based learning. Students identify problems, they plan, design, conduct, analyze, and discuss the Project. Through the experience of a range of activities, students acquire the skills to get by as entrepreneurs as well as researchers in a social structure with accelerating technological innovations.

Doctoral Course

In this program, students deepen their research interests further and go on with the research activities based on the knowledge and the experience acquired from the Master’s Program or as contributing members of society. Research does not mean to merely create new things. It is necessary to clarify the historical value of the research or create social meaning itself. Research themes are deepened and are developed by sharing and discussing awareness, associated problems and values with faculty members and students specialized in the interdisciplinary field of Systems Information Science.

The Graduate School of Systems Information Science consists of the Master’s and Doctoral Programs with research areas in Complex Information Science, Intelligence Information Science, Media Architecture, and Media Design. The aims at this level are to ensure that students acquire advanced expertise by developing broad perspectives based on these interdisciplinary fields.

A Flexible Advising System

One of the characteristics of the graduate program at FUN is that students can be advised by faculty members in various research fields to work on interdisciplinary research themes. Students design their own curriculum in accordance with their research themes and desired future path under the consultation of an advisor. Students develop multi-dimensional research perspectives through the project-based research in the Master’s program and guidance by faculty member serving as sub-advisors.

Promoting Project-Based Research

The FUN Master’s Program offers a course called Project-Based Research. For the first half of this course, students participate in one of the projects assigned from various fields, and learn the practical basics of research activities. At this stage of the course, in addition to the training of basic skills, students are expected to find problems that lead to the next level of research topics, or practice for entering into the real world of employment. For the latter part of this course, students start preparing for their graduation thesis by focusing on presentations and discussions of their research.

FUN’s Well-Developed System for Mature-Age Students

The Graduate School of Future University Hakodate provides various systems for mature-age students, especially for promoting cooperation and exchange between society at large and companies. In particular, the graduate school offers a special selection system for mature-age student admissions. Many such students currently study at FUN’s Graduate School.
