Yuko Shirakawa, a third-year doctoral student (supervisor: Professor Takayuki Nakata), and Professor Nakata (Department of Complex and Intelligent Systems)December 1, 2025 December 1, 2025 I presented a poster at the Sixth Joint Meeting: Acoustical Society of America and Acoustical Society of Japan, held on the 5th in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, and received the student award for best poster prize in the Musical Acoustics category.
In the poster presentation, we demonstrated that using a method of performing with a virtual partner via keyboard taps, the correction of asynchronous (delay) by the performance partner significantly improved the temporal stability and subjective evaluation of enjoyment in the performance, not only for students who had received professional music lessons, but also for students with no prior music lesson experience.
The Technical Committee in Musical Acoustics of the Acoustical Society of America selected three student poster presentations from among numerous presentations considered for the award in six Musical Acoustics sessions over four days, and our presentation received third place.
