A student from our university received the 7 Japan Society for Medical and Biological Engineering Research Encouragement Award and the Abe Prize.

Research

Sotaro Kato, a second-year doctoral student (Information Architecture field, supervised by Professor Yasuo Ishigure), presented his research at the 64th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Medical and Biological Engineering. 2025 I received the "Research Encouragement Award - Abe Award" from the Japan Society for Medical and Biological Engineering.

Ms. Kato analyzed the acoustic characteristics contained in speech to investigate whether it is possible to capture the features of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) from short-duration speech information. In the future, she aims to realize a technology that utilizes speech information acquired in daily life to support the early detection of MCI outside of medical institutions.

The Research Encouragement Award and the Abe Award are presented by the Japan Society for Medical and Biological Engineering to young researchers (under 35 years old) who have made valuable research presentations in the fields covered by the society. 2025 Three individuals were selected as award recipients from among the research presentations that were reviewed.

Presentation Title: Basic Study on Classification of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) Using Short Speech Information
