[Press Release] Learning from Animal Attention Mechanisms to Avoid Three-Dimensional Collisions of Artificial Objects: Judging "Danger!" by Visual Alone

Research

[Key points of the research results]
- Developed a new 3D collision avoidance method inspired by the mechanism by which animals focus their attention on dangerous individuals.
- It can determine collision risk solely from changes in how others appear, enabling collision avoidance without communication.
・Expected applications in future airspace use involving the movement of numerous artificial objects, such as swarms of drones.

【Overview】
A research group led by Professor Takeshi Kano of Future University Hakodate has developed a new 3D collision avoidance method for artificial objects using only visual information, inspired by the mechanism by which animals focus their attention only on those posing a high risk of collision.
