FUN Open University ① Introduction to Data Science

Recent advancements in information science have made it possible for us to obtain vast amounts of data across various fields. Data science is a new academic field that seeks to uncover new meanings, values, laws, and relationships from this enormous amount of data.

At Future University Hakodate, which explores information science, we have established a curriculum (Data Science Open Program) as a specialized field where you can deeply study data science. This lecture is a restructured version of the introductory material for our students.

In this lecture, you will learn the following:

  • What kind of thinking underlies data science?
  • How is data science being used to benefit society?

This lecture is slightly different from a mock lesson, as its goal is to "learn" data science. Therefore, some parts may seem a little difficult at this point. That's because it's a university lecture. I hope this lecture will provide you with an opportunity to consider the role that information science plays in society and serve as a guide when you think about your future career path.

Department of Complex and Intelligent Systems (Complex Systems Course) Professor Yuichi Katori

I am a professor in the Department of Complex and Intelligent Systems (Complex Systems Course) at Future University Hakodate School of Systems. I love Hakodate. I studied at the University of Tokyo. I majored in physics (elementary particle physics) in my master's program, and then switched to research on mathematical models of the brain in my doctoral program. I hold a PhD in Science. After serving as a researcher and specially appointed assistant professor at the Institute of Industrial Science, University of Tokyo, April, 2015 I am currently in my present position. I conduct research on mathematical models of the brain and mathematically constructing the brain. At Future University Hakodate, I teach courses such as "Introduction to Data Science."
