Future University Hakodate
is a specialized institution centered on the School of Systems Information Science.
Systems Information Science is a field of study that explores diverse systems including biological, natural, mathematical, social, cognitive, and artificial systems by leveraging information science to understand their underlying mechanisms, design better versions, and bring those designs into practice in the real world.
At our university, we comprehensively cultivate the ability to analyze (Science), to design (Design), and to build (Engineering).
As a single-discipline university, the curriculum, research environment, university administration, and architectural space are all designed as an integrated whole, creating an environment where cross-disciplinary collaboration occurs on a daily basis.
Characteristics of learning

Pursuing harmony between humanity and science
We emphasize the balance between humanity and science and technology, and explore an innovative approach to information science that views the complex real world as a system. We combine mathematics, design, and social science to tackle social issues.

Learning together in an open space
Centered around an open atrium-style studio, glass-walled laboratories and classrooms are arranged throughout the space. This design naturally fosters interaction among students and between students and faculty, encouraging interactive learning and a strong sense of community.

Open-minded educational environment
We offer flexible learning that is not bound by classrooms or time slots. We have created an environment that fosters independence and creativity through a variety of activities such as group work, discussions, and craftsmanship.
Curriculum
The School of Systems Media Science consists of two departments: the Department of Media Architecture and the Department of Complex and Intelligent Systems.
From the second year, students are divided into two departments and then assigned to one of five majors within those departments.
