Gamification and the design of play. Speculative design, and the role of play in culture and communication.
The appeal of research
I have studied semiotics, a field of philosophy that explores the mechanisms of communication and the creation and interpretation of meaning. I apply this to the study of games and play, working on designing games and developing applications that allow people to have meaningful experiences. I also explore ways in which people can grow as individuals and as members of society through experiences that reflect and imagine future possibilities.
Achievements
2019 2019 と2022 2022 I received two postdoctoral researcher scholarships from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and conducted research on gamification and play culture in Japan at the University of Tokyo and Ritsumeikan University. I also contributed to the writing of a book on gamification and engagement design in Italian and was involved in the establishment of Italy's first university course on gamification. Furthermore, I developed a serious game for schools and led a speculative design Craft-Shop on sustainable mobility in Tampere, Finland.

Attractive Factors of My Research
I studied semiotics, the branch of philosophy that analyse how we communicate, create and interpret meaning. I apply it to the study of games and play, and I design playful experiences and applications to create meaningful experiences for people. I also study and design experiences that ask people to reflect and imagine possible futures, as a way to improve as individuals and as part of society.
Achievement
I obtained twice the Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science in 2019 and 2022 to study gamification and culture of play in Japan, at Tokyo University and Ritsumeikan University.
I collaborated to a dissemination book in Italian on gamification and engagement design, and created one of the first gamification university course in Italy.
I designed serious games for schools and I coordinated a project of speculative design Craft-Shops for sustainable mobility in the city of Tampere, Finland.
