My research focuses on the production, distribution, and institutionalization of knowledge from both historical and contemporary perspectives. Building on my analysis of the institutionalization process of mathematics in modern Japan, I currently explore the impact of digital technologies and media on knowledge, industry, and society. In particular, I analyze the relationship between data, industrial structure, and society/economy during the process of their integration into society, using an international comparative perspective.
The appeal of research
The appeal of my research lies in the fact that it allows us to concretely trace the process by which knowledge and rationality have been shaped within historical and social conditions, rather than simply existing as "taken for granted." Even seemingly abstract subjects like mathematics, science, and digital technology have only come to function through institutions, media, and people's practices.
I find research fascinating because it allows me to re-examine the state of the information society from a different perspective by moving back and forth between analyzing historical cases and conducting empirical studies on contemporary digital technologies and institutions, and because this perspective can provide clues for thinking about the future.
Achievements
His doctoral dissertation on the institutionalization of mathematics in modern Japan earned him the Johannes Zilkens Prize in Germany.2020 2020 ) and the Kuwahara Prize of the Japan Society for the History of Mathematics (2023 2023 ) was awarded.
I serve on the steering committee and editorial committee of the Japan Society for the History of Mathematics, and I am involved in the society's activities and the dissemination of research results.
Furthermore, at the German Institute for Japanese Studies, I have been involved in international research exchanges concerning the relationship between digital technology and society/institutions, and have participated from an academic standpoint in Craft-Shops and discussions on digital regulation and cooperation between Japan and Europe.

Research Contents
I study the production, circulation, and institutionalization of knowledge from historical and contemporary perspectives. Building on my research on the institutionalization of mathematics in modern Japan, my work examines how digital technologies and media shape knowledge, industry, and society. In particular, I analyze the interplay between data, industrial structures, and socio-economic conditions through international comparison.
Attractive Factors of My Research
What draws me to my research is tracing how knowledge and rationality—often taken for granted—have been shaped by historical and social conditions. Even abstract subjects like mathematics, science, and digital technology only function through institutions, media, and practices.
Moving between historical analysis and empirical investigation of contemporary digital technologies and policies, my research reframes the information society from a different angle—a perspective that can inform how we think about the future.
