I research low-level software called system software. A typical example of system software is the operating system. The emergence of new IT infrastructure such as internetworking, consumer electronics like smartphones and LCD TVs, and cloud computing is always accompanied by innovations in system software, including operating systems.
Currently, I am interested in system software and virtualization technologies for embedded systems, and I am conducting research and development based on open-source technologies such as Linux and BitVisor.
Achievements
Based on the Cabinet Secretariat's Information Security Center's "Basic Plan for Information Security," the "Secure VM Project" (2006-) was selected as a research project focused on solving important issues under the Science and Technology Promotion Coordination Fund.2008 2008 In the research and development of BitVisor, a purely domestic, lightweight virtual machine monitor (hypervisor) software (Principal Investigator: Professor Kazuhiko Kato, University of Tsukuba), I participated. After the project ended, I continued to improve and maintain BitVisor, which was released as open source, and with the support of JST A-STEP, I successfully commercialized OS provisioning software using BitVisor. This OS provisioning software, which centrally manages software environments in large-scale PC environments such as university educational computer systems, has been introduced and is in operation in actual system environments of several hundred to over 1,000 machines at universities such as the University of Tokyo, Tsuda University, and Meiji University. The process of commercializing cutting-edge software implemented for university research purposes and developing it into a business was also a valuable experience in the study of the social application of computer science.
