I have been engaged in research in the field of CALL (Computer-Assisted Language Learning). While CALL, or computer-assisted language learning, is a relatively new field in linguistics, computers have great potential as language learning tools. The advantage of computer-based learning materials, which also possess an interactive nature, is that they can be adapted to the needs and abilities of students. For example, a teacher can create computer-based learning materials, and interactive exchanges can occur between the materials and students. The active response of the person operating the computer makes it a highly effective learning tool.
