I joined the Advanced ICT Workshop in my first year after being invited by a senior student, but I didn't stick with it for long at first, so I rejoined in my third year. I didn't really take on a leadership role in ICT, but I did things like planning the launch of new teams and coordinating Android development within the team. Even so, I gained enough experience to have plenty to talk about during job interviews, so I think others who were in ICT might feel like they "didn't have enough to talk about" during job interviews.
Based on my ICT experience, I've realized since starting my job that being able to read code is a huge advantage. Currently, I'm in a department that operates systems, and when there are bugs, I have to read code written by someone I don't know, or code within a system with an unfamiliar architecture. My experience in the Advanced ICT Course and Advanced ICT Exercises allows me to predict what's going on in each part of the code, which I find very helpful. I also had the opportunity to read other people's code in the Advanced ICT Exercises, and being exposed to various languages in the Advanced ICT Course classes allowed me to unconsciously learn the commonalities between different languages, which was very beneficial.
