The Center for University-Society Relations and Collaboration (CRC)June 2012 April, 2012 It was established by reorganizing and renaming the previous Joint Research Center. It was founded with the aim of promoting diverse collaboration and cooperation between the university, the local community, and society as a whole. In addition to supporting various social collaboration activities of faculty, staff, and students, it actively engages with society and collaborates with society in order to pursue the mission that the university should fulfill as a member of the local community and the global community, and to create a local community and future society befitting the 21st century.
Development of unique social collaboration activities
One of the distinguishing features of our university is that each faculty member collaborates with diverse sectors in the region, establishing NPOs and voluntary organizations to engage in diverse knowledge transfers that go beyond narrowly defined technology transfers. Examples include the "NPO Fisheries Product Traceability Research Group," which brings together fisheries, marine, and port-related businesses and researchers to raise awareness and promote the traceability of fishery products (a system for tracking production and distribution processes); the "Hakodate Tourism Informatics Research Group," where local businesses and citizens learn from each other about the informatization of tourism; the "Hakodate International Science Festival," Japan's first full-scale science festival; and the "NPO Smart City," which aims to implement information-based infrastructure and services for local communities. Numerous unique and unparalleled social collaboration activities have been realized through the leadership of our faculty members.
Co-creating value for local communities and future societies.
In order to broadly support and promote collaborative activities between universities and society, including these diverse activities, and to contribute to the creation of 21st-century local communities from a long-term perspective, the Joint Research Center will be reorganized and renamed.June 2012 April, 2012 We have relaunched as the "Center for University-Society Relations and Collaboration (CRC)." Along with this, we have also established new policies for social collaboration, industry-academia collaboration, and intellectual property.
