MIKE

FINESSE carries out resource-based reasoning to combine multiple small plans into a single global plan.

These global plans can look ahead right to the end of the tree of possible actions. Against human players FINESSE is therefore less prone to the short-sightedness that afflicts the traditional look-ahead approach.

The planning algorithm is still in its early stages. It is not being developed as a dedicated `Bridge-playing algorithm' but as an extention of the classical plan-space planning paradigm. We therefore envisage that its techniques will be widely applicable.
