The mission of the Graduate School of Future University Hakodate is to explore ideal systems that harmonize humans and computers, to provide interdisciplinary education and research integrating complex systems science, information science, design studies, cognitive science, and related fields, and to cultivate individuals with broad and comprehensive perspectives

Under this mission, students who have fulfilled the prescribed academic standards, based on four perspectives that further develop the Diploma Policy of the undergraduate program, are each conferred a degree in the master’s program and the doctoral program.

Master’s Program

Through the acquisition of the following competencies, students who have attained broad academic insight and research abilities in their specialized fields, or skills required for advanced professional work, will be awarded the degree of Master.

Research and Practical Competence Based on System Information Science

  • Grounded in System Information Science, students acquire comprehensive perspectives and advanced expertise necessary to autonomously explore and solve problems with a research-oriented mindset.
  • By addressing regional, societal, or academic challenges, they can pioneer new methodologies and academic fields and envision and implement a sustainable information society.

Academic Communication and Dissemination Skills

  • Students develop advanced communication and presentation abilities, enabling them to accurately convey and discuss their research outcomes and professional knowledge in academic and social contexts, both domestically and internationally.

Continuous Self-Development for Pioneering the Future

  • With an interdisciplinary and holistic perspective, students can redefine their specialized fields in the context of an ever-changing society, continuously updating and deepening their learning throughout their lives.

Professional Practice with Social Responsibility and Ethical Awareness

  • Students respect the diverse values of others and of society, act with an awareness of their social responsibilities, and make decisions and take actions based on scientific integrity and a strong sense of ethics.

Doctoral Program

Through the acquisition of the following competencies, students who have attained the academic knowledge and abilities required to conduct independent research activities or to perform other highly specialized professional duties will be awarded the degree of Doctor.

Research and Practical Competence Based on System Information Science

  • Grounded in System Information Science and systems thinking, students can autonomously conceive and conduct original research addressing unresolved issues, thereby pioneering new theories, methodologies, and academic fields.
  • By applying academic insights to practical and social implementation, they can contribute to solving complex societal challenges or advancing the next-generation information society.

Academic Communication and Dissemination Skills

  • As active members of academic and social communities both domestically and internationally, students disseminate their research outcomes at an international standard and take the lead in academic discourse.
  • They cultivate advanced communication and expressive skills, enabling collaboration and integration of knowledge with researchers and practitioners across diverse disciplines and cultures, thereby creating new research fields and values.

Continuous Self-Development for Pioneering the Future

  • With an interdisciplinary and panoramic perspective, students reconstruct their areas of expertise within social and international contexts and continuously update and deepen their knowledge autonomously.
  • To take the lead in identifying and solving future societal challenges, they consistently enhance themselves as creators of knowledge by envisioning changes in society and scientific and technological trends.

Professional Practice with Social Responsibility and Ethical Awareness

  • Students uphold scientific integrity and strong ethical standards and fulfill their social responsibilities at every stage of the research process.
  • They are aware of their mission as researchers, which is returning the outcomes of their work for the public good and contributing to human well-being and the sound development of the information society, and act proactively to realize these objectives.
